A freemium game is an app that can be downloaded for free on the Google Play store for android or iTunes for iOS products but users can spend money while playing the game to unlock premium services or enhancements if required. Freemium is a combination of the words "free" and "premium". The app being free attracts a lot of users to download and engage with the game until they are willing to spend money to enjoy premium features such as playing with no advertisements, unlocking extra levels or simple extra powers to help overcome existing levels.
One of the most played freemium Apps out there at the moment is Candy Crush Saga. We at b*different, like everyone else are addicted to it. Candy Crush Saga is a fun puzzle game that is available for free on Android and iOS. Produced by King.com Limited, The app can be integrated to your Facebook account where you can send and receive extra lives from your friends, see their scores, real time progress and compete to not only beat the tricky puzzles but to beat your friends scores too.
The aim of Candy Crush Saga is to work your way through hundreds of levels completing different tasks, some levels require you to reach a certain score, others to clear jellies, more to bring fruits down to the bottom of the screen but all levels have one thing in common, a limited amount of moves. You complete tasks by matching three or more jellies in a row. Run out of moves and you lose a life, having to wait thirty minutes or rely on friends to give you a life if you want to retry as five lives are the maximum you can have at any one time.
So this is where the Freemium elements come into play, and they are not cheap. Examples include:
• Jelly Fish (€1.79): Adds jelly fish to candy, then clears three pieces of jelly when matched.
• Extra Moves (€0.89): Adds five extra moves to a puzzle.

Apple has debuted a new series of ads aimed at showcasing their products. In a break from their typical I'm a Mac/I'm a PC style, they now have a single Apple 'Genius' who is placed into a variety of situations.
Apple today released the latest upgrade to the OSX Operating System. 'Mountain Lion' features over 200 updates to the previous version 'Lion' and is now available to download via the App Store.
So I'm a massive music fan. I discovered Spotify roughly a year ago and since then, I've moved almost totally over from iTunes to streaming music - either through my phone, or on my Mac.
One of the annoying things about it though was the iPad app - it wasn't native to the iPad and as a result you had to tap that annoying (and highly pixelated) x2 icon to zoom into the glorified iPhone app.
BUT yesterday - Spotify released a brand new snazzy iPad app. You can go download it now - it's uber cool - as you would expect, has all of the main features - access to your playlists, what your friends are playing, access to offline songs if you've got Spotify Premium and so forth.
Ever wondered how green and envrionmentally friendly your iPad is?
Well, have a look at the infographic below. Interesting!
Apple have now turned to Hollywood stars Samuel L. Jackson and Zooey Deschanel to demo their iPhone 4S Siri voice recognition technology.
They have also ensured that they keep all of the carriers happy so depending on which one advert you see, AT&T, Verizon or Sprint will show up in the left corner.
So what are the ads like? Well…in typical Apple fashion they've got a nice quirky way about them. Samuel L. Jackson's one for example sees him asking Siri for the location of organic mushrooms and also converting measurements - this all in time for 'date night.'
Zooey Deschanel on the other hand uses Siri to check the weather outside - while she's looking out of the window. She also asks for the closest place which delivers tomato soup - mainly so that she won't have to put on shoes.
Apple have always been known for their 'different' type of advertising - in recent years using 'cool' advertising to describe the Mac, and 'business like' advertising to describe Windows.
