With just a couple of hours left until the release of Star Trek into Darkness in Irish cinemas, we are going to take a look at the Audi commercial featuring “old” Spock and “new” Spock. Uploaded to youtube yesterday afternoon, the ad has rocketed to over a million views in 24 hours.
The ad has it all, fast cars, technology and of course some geeky Star Trek references. Audi use the ad as an opportunity to get a dig in at rival Mercades when Leonard Nimoy cannot fit his golf clubs into the boot. Zachary Quinto (Spock from JJ Abrams Star Trek films) is seen driving the cool Audi s7 and wins the race to the golf club to avoid buying lunch. The two Spocks are highly competitive and not wanting to be out done by his young protégé and to the delight of many Trekkies, Nimoy knocks Quinto out with a classic Vulcan Pinch.
